Having fun with the extended family

We are in Romania for our wedding celebrations and summer vacation. Weddings are a time of families coming together, and Bubsi is enjoying all the attention she gets from the extended family.

The Romanian grandparents

Next to the celebrations we are in Romania for another special occasion: visiting the Romanian grandparents. As they are posted on a diplomatic mission outside of Europe, we do not get to see them very often. In fact, Bubsi has only met them once before, in June last year. Back then she was still a baby, so this visit marks the first time she can actively engage with grandpa C and grandma E.

C and E were very excited when we arrived and spoiled Bubsi with presents and attention. She was quick to warm up with them. Now she looks at albums with grandma and picks berries in the garden with grandpa, everyday. We were sad to leave yesterday, as the next visit with C and E will most likely take another year again.

The Romanian uncle

Uncle A is one of Bubsi’s favorite people. He is very relaxed and enjoys playing with her, two good points. A Lives closer to us, in Belgium, so we see him more frequently. When Bubsi was a baby, she fell asleep in his arms. In the future, uncle A will take Bubsi on her most exciting trips, as he is the adventure junkie of the family. The two have a real connection.

The German grandparents

Grandma D and grandpa K flew in for the celebrations last Monday. It is their first ever trip to Romania. Bubsi was happy to see them again and to show them her staircase climbing skills. As always, she was a bit slow to connect with grandpa K, which he blames on his missing incisor (K is having his teeth fixed but it is taking a long time). Now we take trips together to explore Romania.

The German aunt

My sister H is Bubsi’s second mom. Or first, as that how she acts. Bubsi has a total crush on her one and only aunt. When Bubsi first said “mama” she meant H, but since then found a new name for her. H enjoys all the love, though sometimes she wishes she could make a move in peace. I don’t mind all the love for aunt H (okay, sometimes I do mind a little), as it means I can take a break when she is around.
