Too much, in too short a time

Right now I feel exhausted. I do not want to lift my little finger, that’s how exhausted I feel. Yet there is no time to rest. Our life right now is simply too busy, with too much going on.

Wedding vacation

These last two weeks, we’ve been on vacation. A special one at that, as it involved our big wedding party in a Romanian military palace. I promise I’ll write a post about our special night once we have received the pictures (and I have more time on my hands 😉 ). As I wrote previously, however, the wedding preparations took most of the relaxation out of the vacation. Still, we got to spend lots of time with our close family. And that is good, but exhausting in and of itself.

Finding a home

Now that we are back we face the next big thing: our move. You are aware that our landlord cancelled our contract, forcing us to move in August. It now looks as if we will return to Germany instead of finding a new London flat to live in. Papa got an amazing deal from his company, and we would benefit greatly from a return to my home country. Not only because my family lives close by, but also in terms of financial stability and quality of life. Not that London is bad, mind you, but it is damn expensive. All things considered, with the green light from Papa’s office Germany is our best option for the near future. One caveat though: we have to find a flat abroad.

It is not common in Germany to not view flats yourself when you want to move in. But with less than four weeks to the move and flight prices sky rocketing, there is no way we can fly over and view flats for ourselves. While my parents have offered to do the viewings for us, agents and landlords seem to be reluctant to “not meet the real tenants” in advance. I wish that was the only problem with finding a flat, but… well. Also we have a toddler, and need at least two bedrooms. Turns out most currently available flats that one can rent short notice are one bedroom. Or visibly poor quality. Thus our pool of potential flats is not that favorable. Likely, we will end up taking the first one we can afford that my parents are allowed to view. Fingers crossed we find a new home in time for our return from Iceland.

Oh yes, Iceland

Because, Iceland is still happening too. Right after our London flat contract ends, we fly out to Papa’s conference. What can I say, I am looking forward. I mean, it is Iceland. Nature, beauty, adventure! If only there was no move, or not a move up in the air. With my head full of things to remember, and a body still recovering from that wedding celebration, my excitement is somewhat hampered. I’m sure we will have a good time though. Right. I am.

Too much

It doesn’t end with finding a flat and going to Iceland. There is still the packing of our stuff. The cleaning of the old flat. Moving our belongings over to Germany. Filling out relocation forms at Papa’s office, arranging new health care and other bureaucratic pitfalls. The list is long. Wish us luck!
