One crazy trip

Returning from Iceland was one crazy trip, to say the least. It involved two buses, two planes, a train, the tube, two trams and ended with a technical failure of tram 2.

Who scheduled this?

Our Iceland trip happened in the middle of our move from London to Germany. Im fact, we handed over the keys to our London flat the day before flying out of Heathrow. As I explained in a previous post, timing this summer couldn’t have been much worse and turned out life upside down. Luckily, we all stayed in good health these past weeks or it would have been a nightmare!

Topping everything that went before it, however, was the return from Iceland. At least in terms of travel with public transport.

The crazy trip

Leaving our airbnb apartment in Reykjavik, we had to catch a small bus first. It brought us to a bus terminal where we continued to a big bus taking us to Keflavik airport. From here, a plane took us to London Heathrow. Getting to LHR, located in London’s southwest, was just the warm-up though.

We caught a one hour Piccadilly line tube, followed by two stops on the Victoria line. Then we took a Stansted express train to Stansted airport. Here, we stayed in a hotel for a few hours between midnight and an early morning flight to Germany.

Arriving in our new home town in Germany (will write another post about the place), we took a tram from the airport to the city center. And a second tram from there home. Or almost home, I should say. Because after everything else working out just fine, the second tram broke down two stops short of our destination. Door closing failure. Shit happens, walking home too.

Trip complications

In the end, it all went fine. But I have to say that this crazy trip came with some complications. A toddler, for instance. Who did fabulously, considering. Nevertheless Bubsi was nursing constantly and had to be carried 95% of the time.

Carrying Bubsi is no easy feat these days. She wants to walk often but was denied (we had to rush from one transport to the next). She is also gaining weight. What was easy a year ago has turned into a serious workout. Finally, I have to carry her. Not that Papa wouldn’t. But Bubsi is not letting him unless I am not there. “Mama” needs to do it. Add in four 15kg suitcases and two backpacks, and laugh at our ordeal 😉
