A little more than a month ago I wrote about a very difficult phase in potty training Bubsi. For about two weeks, she would poo next to her potty, rather than in it. Screaming and tense the entire time, and at least once every two days.  It wasn’t pretty and I was devastated. Before that, Bubsi had reliably pooed in the potty since we first introduced it at ten months. The phase soon passed, however, and now it seems she is potty trained completely!

Too many Pampers diapers

Usually, we use cloth diapers on Bubsi. Specifically the PeeNut system from Scottish cloth diaper company Totsbots. That is, we use them when we are home and have a washing machine to hand. However, since July we haven’t been home much, traveling and moving between London, Romania, Iceland and Germany. It is too cumbersome to cloth diaper on the road, and so I purchased Pampers diapers.

We had one pack of 39 regular diapers and another containing 32 pull-ups before July. I estimated that we would need to purchase more on the go, considering that Bubsi’s diapers were regularly wet post nap and in the morning. Sometimes she would still pee her diapers during the day too. But by the time we left Iceland, more than 1.5 months later, we had only used the 39 regular diapers! I was shocked. With the poo problems in-between I had been convinced that we were experiencing a potty training regression. Instead, we were making a huge leap forward. Only what will we do with all the leftover pull-ups?

Barely any accidents

Since the end of August, there have been barely any accidents. We have counted four wet diapers and one mishap peeing on har chair. All wet diapers happened post nap, but only if we failed to get Bubsi out of her pushchair immediately after waking. At night and during the day, she is practically dry. And her pooing behavior has long since returned to normal, too.

So is Bubsi potty trained?

I am not sure if Bubsi is potty trained for good. We keep her diaperless at home, and only use back-ups for outside trips and naps. At night, Bubsi is protesting against diapers and I leave them off now when home (there is a mattress protection sheet of course). I am amazed how well it is working, at only 20.5 months. However, Bubsi has stopped asking to go to potty. And that worries me. I put her in regular intervals and she usually goes, but what if I forget to put her? Will she remind me? Or is she just pottying to please me? The other day, she held her pee for 7 hours. An experiment, or a reason to worry? Only time will tell.
