Bubsi is sick. Nothing bad, mind you, just a cold. Even so, I am somewhat overwhelmed. And Bubsi is somewhat cranky. And none of us gets much sleep.
First cold in forever
I do not have much experience with sick toddlers. Actually, I have none. Last time Bubsi was sick she was still a baby. Nearly a year ago, at 11 months, she came down with three-day fever. Which was not exciting, but it did not involve clogged noses. A rash and some fever, that’s all it was. Her last (and first) cold was with two months, and back then my life was in a newborn jumble back then.
Clogged noses, no sleep
This time around Bubsi is feverish again, if generally in a good mood. Just her nose is running or clogged, alternately, and I had no idea how annoying such a simple symptom could be. Bubsi does not sleep because her nose bothers her.
Alright, scratch that. I do not sleep because Bubsi’s nose bothers her. She at least manages to catch some shut eye, attached to my boob. She nurses all night, give or take an hour. Should I attempt to free my nipple from her mouth she screams. Immediately. High pitched, of course, so that Papa and I sit upright in bed and the only remedy is back to boob. Repeat ad infinitum.
Dreaded nose drops
While providing temporary relief, salt water nose drops have proven extremely unpopular. Trying to get them into Bubsi’s nose resembles a pitch fight. Nose sprays are equally scary. Last night, the coughing phase began and that has proven to be another sleep killer.
The Good News
It is just a cold. But wow, what a bother. On the positive side we have finally received our health insurance cards. A month and a bit after arriving, but Hey we can see doctors again. Not that I want to. But hey, if Bubsi’s cold gets worse…
