Bubsi at 22 months

I am a fan of catchy numbers. 22 is one if those, like all multiples of 11. At any rate, Bubsi is now 22 months old. Plus a few days. Isn’t that crazy? And she is such a sunshine that I need to tell you what she is like these days. Warning: proud mom boasting material ahead!

The talker

If Bubsi could, she would never stop speaking. She talks incessantly (some say, that is very much like me). In fact, her vocabulary is huge for her age. At her health check-up last week the doctor remarked that I had not checked the word “pacifier” on the which words does your toddler know sheet. It was a joke of course, as she confidently uses all the other 49 words. And the simple answer is she does not own a pacifier.

Aside from knowing so many words, Bubsi also forms sentences already. Not just the two-word ones we might expect from toddlers her age. But actually, three words are standard and on occasion we’ve heard more than that. Don’t forget, Bubsi grows up trilingually (English, German and Romanian). Kids like her are expected to talk later than other kids. Well, on average obviously.

The artist

Bubsi uses her many words mostly to sing with me. She loves singing songs and some of them she knows by heart already. “Twinkle twinkle little star”, for instance. Sometimes she uses the melodies of the songs we sing and just sings our her life to them. Imagine “drag, drag my toy dog” for twinkle….

Her musicality extends beyond singing though. There is a keyboard in our house she loves “practicing with” (=hammering on). Listening to music is a request we hear multiple times a day. Dancing to said music inevitably follows.

The train and Lego lover

Unsurprisingly, Bubsi likes to play, too. Without a doubt the train set is her favorite. She arranges the trains and pulls them across the tracks. Every train has a name. Derailing causes a tantrum until fixed. Watching train shows like Thomas the little engine is super-exciting, too, and has saved us on some car journeys.

Building towers out of Lego duplo is also wonderful (until the tumble). Pulling the toy dog behind herself or taking a ride on the bobby car are fun too. Coloring, playing with sand and water, sliding and swinging at the playground, climbing on Papa… All these things Bubsi currently enjoys.

The helper

When she doesn’t play or sing, Bubsi is with me or Papa. She loves me reading to her, and there are clear favorites for story time. She does not just take though. If I need help around the household, Bubsi tries her best. We do laundry together, and cook, and clear away toys. The sound of the vacuum cleaner may not be her favorite, but the dishwasher is fine (which she unloads!). At the end of an exciting day, Bubsi usually falls asleep…on beloved Bubu, nursing.
