Love and Flowers

We do all like to see flowers, don’t we? Well yes, in our family we do. But not equally so.

Unequal love for flowers

Papa loves flowers. I am not kidding you, if it would make a fortune he’d be a gardener. Software engineering just pays better. On our first ever date back in Cambridge he surprised me with a bouquet of roses. Needless to say it was sweet but unexpected, and just a little overwhelming: it was a first date, not a proposal :)! The proposal actually did not come with flowers at all, as by then Papa knew that…

I do not like cut flowers around the house. Yes, really. I like looking at flowers. I even enjoy potted plants (as long as I am not responsible for watering them). Just the flower bouquets one can buy are not my type of shoe. Why? Because, quite plainly, they make work, they die soon, and they are simply too expensive for that. Thus, even though Papa would like to always have cut flowers in the house, we hardly ever have them.

Bubsi of course likes flowers, and proudly calls them flowers, too! So when I felt like Papa needed some love, I asked Bubsi whether she wanted to buy some roses for him. Of course she was game. We ventured to the flower store, and if it had been up to Bubsi we would have gotten many more than I was willing to pay for. Here is the result:

Surprising Papa

Papa of course did not expect any flowers at all and was very surprised. It turns outbhe is not a fan of the yellow roses with red accents, but hey – flowers in the house! And lots of love, as always. The roses died soon, after only five days. Just before Papa had to fly out for his annual pre-Xmas business trip to the US. Which is a changed place since the November election,  I hear.

Other trivia

Now that Papa is gone our sickness trail continues. It appears Bubsi just attracts viruses this year. Three days after her bronchitis we spent the last week with 40+ degrees fever. Nothing would bring it down, but the doc confirmed “just a virus”. A virus that stole my sleep, Bubsi’s sleep, my nerves, my energy… Well, what was left of it after the bronchitis anyway 😉

How are you doing in the run-up for Christmas?
