Bubsi’s own bed

We are getting bigger. The family, that is. By one member. Our bed, however, doesn’t really look like it will grow anytime soon (and if it did, I might just freak out a little). It quickly became clear we would need to find a solution for this – more sleeping space for the family. This is how Bubsi got to have a new bed. Her first, and her own. What an adventure!

Finding a toddler bed

Space in our flat is limited. While the total area is actually rather big, it only has two bedrooms – one of which we actually use for Papa’s home office. The bedroom in which we have happily coslept so far has an unusual layout, which makes fitting furniture somewhat of a challenge. Therefore, we were quite restricted and needed to find a bed for Bubsi that would fit exactly into the corner between our big bed and the window. In such a way, of course, that the door to the balcony still opens. And we did not plan on spending a fortune either. Yey!

After some research, we discovered the French company Vertbaudet. They have toddler beds measuring 140x90cm, which is a custom fit for the space we have available. The exciting bit is that their toddler bed comes with a box/shelf extension. We can put it separately for now, in another part of the bedroom to store Bubsi’s clothes. Once she outgrows her toddler bed and we move to a bigger space that has a children’s bedroom, the box can be installed at the end of the toddler bed. This turns it into a proper 190×90 cm kids bed. Fabulous design!

Bubsi likes her new bed and sleeps in it (most of the time)

Once the bed arrived, Bubsi and Papa spent a whole morning building it. Bubsi was quite excited about the process and helped out with finding all the correct screws and handing them to Papa. (See pictures below). We have had the new bed for about a month now and what can I say. She sleeps in it most of the time. As in, she falls asleep there and spends at least her first sleep cycle in the bed. Sometimes she rolls over into our big bed to cuddle, but this has been getting less over time.

Bubsi really is a proper toddler now. She seems so big to me, going to kindergarten and sleeping in her own bed. When did you transition your baby out of your bed? Or have you had a separate crib all along?
