Dancing Tuesdays

Bubsi loves dancing. Many toddlers do, I reckon. She has quite a good grasp of rhythm and her favorite Christmas gift was the toddler dancing DVD from grandma D. Thus, this spring Papa and I signed her up for dance classes.

Tuesdays we go have fun

Every Tuesday afternoon Bubsi and I venture to a dance studio about 10 minutes away from our house. Well, 10 minutes without toddler and up to an hour more than that with toddler. The group we attend is called “diaper dancers”- toddlers between 1.5 and 3 years get to dance with a caregiver, led by a professional kids dance teacher. We dance to children’s tunes with easy to learn choreographies. Bubsi loves it, no surprise there. Often, she repeats what she learned at home for the rest of the week.

The bigger kids group

Lately, something unexpected happened. After the “diaper dancers”, the teacher has a class for 3-4 year olds. We can watch them dance while we get dressed after class, and they have quite nice songs, too. Yet they already dance without caregivera in the room – alone with the teacher. What can I say: Bubsi decided she wants to join their group and dance alone. When the “diaper dancers” is over, she jumps up and down and proclaims ‘dance more, new song’. The teacher said to give it a try, even though she is very young for the group. (The older kids are about a full head taller, by comparison).

So now Bubsi sometimes dances the double shift. Once with me, once alone with the big kids. It works surprisingly well, unless there is a song that requires holding other people’s hands. Bubsi does not like that at all, screams, and we have to stop. The day she gets over that fear she will be unstoppable though. Until then, dancing classes are fun as they are. So much so, Bubsi has learned what “Tuesday” means.
