About

Who is Happy Bubsi?

Happy Bubsi is a personal lifestyle, family, and parenting blog, currently based in London, UK (our family tends to move around). Written by Kat, the blog name refers both to her lovely daughter who goes by the nickname Bubsi (it is a rather odd story involving a chick) and her hopefully mostly happy family life. Happy at least is what all our efforts are spent to achieve, if not always reality.

Who is Kat?

I am Kat, author of Happy Bubsi and mom to Bubsi, my 1.5 year old daughter. Originally from Germany and after living in a few other countries along the way, my current home is in North London, UK.

I love writing and communicating – hence the idea to write a blog. The blog is all about me and my life and will cover anything from bringing up children, day-to-day activities, recipes, travels and family planning, to my feelings and thoughts (the good, the bad, and the ugly) on what life has in store for me and mine.

I also love music (singing, playing, listening), opinionated discussions, crocheting, reading, traveling, complaining … and discovering cooking (you will certainly hear about hits and misses!). Before I had babies, I worked as a university researcher (I am a trained sociologist). Now I am a mom in the lucky position to have a well-earning husband, enabling me to stay home until kindergarten and develop my skills so I am not entirely out of touch once work away from home life calls again.

Who is Kat’s Avatar?

Obviously I am not a stuffed toy. Meet Stuart, our stuffed cuddle monster – complete with a heart-shaped front pocket to store away small items, secrets and sorrows. Stuart is my family’s go-to toy whenever no real person is available to cuddle, laugh, or cry. He also serves as a pillow to sleep on, or as a pillow to hit when angry. With his many features and uses he deserves special recognition, and as I am a private person (you will not see any profile pictures of me or my family members on this blog) he is now my placeholder. Plus, Stuart is simply cute!

Papa

Papa and I met at university during orientation week. We quickly became friends, worked side by side in student organizations, went separate ways for grad school only to discover we wanted to be more than just friends right after. While we were both excited about having children, Papa initially wanted a whole soccer team – he now insists it was a joke. Even so, he is a great dad and husband, always taking care of Bubsi and myself. Bubsi thinks Papa is the most fun and exciting person ever!

Our house would be a mess without Papa, quite literally so. I hate cleaning and doing dishes (isn’t that cleaning as well?) so these tasks have been taken up by him – and I am so grateful! On top of this he is intensely passionate about his job as a software development lead and actually happy to be the one working for the money, enabling me to stay home with Bubsi.

Technology and cars are Papa’s number one passion. There is no gadget or model he doesn’t at least know about. Moreover he enjoys watching sport events, especially football (soccer) which he also plays recreationally, and following current political and business events. He is Romanian and gets excited about any sport Romanian athletes are good at (currently tennis).

Bubsi

She surprised us with her impending arrival just after celebrating our engagement in 2014. Now 1,5 years old, Bubsi joined us in December that same year and immediately stole our hearts. All of our parenting firsts happen with Bubsi, and she is teaching us a lot about parenthood and ourselves.

Bubsi is a sunshine. She is beautiful, strong-willed and independent and occasionally cheeky. Somewhat slow to warm up in social situations, she observes first and then joins in the fun. Currently she enjoys trains, slides, and most of all ducks (any bird is a duckie, of course!). A terrible sleeper and a fantastic eater, Bubsi keeps us busy but rewards us with lots of hugs and kisses!
